«I think ‘The Dance’ is a love gone wrong song for a lot of people, which, you know, it is. But it’s always been a song about life to me. Or maybe the loss of individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for a dream in which they believed, such as John F. Kennedy or Martin Luther King. Keith Whitley’s or John Wayne’s And if they could return, I believe they would tell us what the words of ‘The Dance’ mean, «Garth said.

«The Dance» has helped individuals all around the globe deal with personal trauma and grief, including Kelly Clarkson herself.

Kelly Clarkson told Garth Brooks in 2020 about how the song helped her get through her divorce.
